Hey I had this problem as well..  There is a thread in the mailing list
about this.  I believe that the Subject was "Newbie install problems" or
something like that.  It is quite extensive.  The issue you see (I
experienced the same issues) is that teh build process is looking in
/usr/lib/mysql (32bit version) for the mysqlclient instead of /lib64. 
What I did was just move /usr/lib/mysql to /usr/lib/mysql.orig and made a
simlink from /usr/lib/mysql to /lib64/mysql and the error went away.  It
works like a champ now!
