[qmailtoaster] follow up: spamd not working

still further digging... I checked /var/log/qmail/spamd/current and ran a tail to get

 

@4000000043555bd2236b2d44 [2993] info: prefork: child states: II
@4000000043555ca432cb22bc [2993] info: spamd: server killed by SIGTERM, shutting down
