As far as custom rules are concerned, I am not an expert ... but I do use some rules from here: http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/CustomRulesets If you put custom rules in /etc/mail/spamassassin, they will be used. You don't need to use the rules that say "Not required for SA 3.0" I personally use: chickenpox.cf, bogus-virus-warnings.cf, and tripwire.cf
