Hi there,

I've built a qmail toaster and now need to lock it down properly - anyone
point me to a howto on setting up ptr lookup's / rbl checking / dictionary
attack prevention / etc... Plus any other snazzy methods you've come across!
This machine will be a backup relay (yup Jake, I finally got it working
properly!!)
Glad to see you got it working.
First and foremost, a good firewall. Nick supplies one on his site (I've never looked at it, really), but there's thousands of example firewalls out there if you don't write one yourself. As far as RBL's; a couple are included (spamcop, spamhaus, etc.), and I added (after extensive research to keep FP's down), so mine looks like this: -r sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org -r bl.spamcop.net -r relays.ordb.org -r dnsbl.antispam.or.id

Don't know about the rest. I used to use a firewall script that looked for hack attempts (such as dictionary attacks against root), but in the end I just moved my SSH port up above 1024 so it's not easily detectable. Stopped all of my dictionary attacks against root.
