I had a problem that sounds like this. Are smtp sessions timing out at 200,
300, 600 seconds or so? And you receive duplicates from the sending server
when that hsppens?
I narrowed my problem down to the bayes database. I did:
# qmailctl stop
# mv /home/vpopmail/.spamassassin /home/vpopmail/dot.spamassassin
# qmailctl start
Of course, the bayes database was wiped out and needed to be rebuilt. SA
recreated the .spamassassin directory and related files.
Which version of SA are you running?
