Yes, the access and permissions are fine...

Do a 'ps -ax | grep mysqld' and make sure that the option '--skip-networking' is not on.
Also according to mysql's website, this error can result if a DNS lookup fails on version 5.
For more logging, try starting it with the --log-warnings=2, or adding the log-warnings=2 line to your /etc/my.cnf file.
Curiously I had a DNS problem, but everything is fine since this afternoon, and the error occurs again in the last minutes...
I'm adding this parameter to MySQL and will wait to some output..
