because I think that it would be "cleaner" uptade spamassassin package
and clamav package via urpmi on mandriva, yum on redhat or apt on
Debian... and so on.
I was asking only if does really make sense to compile every update of
those packages that are already avaiable as binary for every distribution.

I'm speculating a bit here. On the toaster, SA and CAV run under control of
simscan. I think that's the main reason.
Besides which, you'll get a bit of a performance boot compiling for your
specific machine architecture over what you'll get from a binary
distribution. In addition, there's less variance between distros this way.
