Try adding some more debugging info to your setup, for more logging try starting it with the --log-warnings=2 or adding the log-warnings=2 line to your /etc/my.cnf file. That might give us some better clues.
Any particular time it does? Is it cyclic?

I put the logging into place.

It seems to happen when there are more than 80 incoming sessions.
Busy bee. Let's see what the extra logging shows and hopefully it will offer some more info.
