If I put the 'Toaster on a dual or quad CPU machine, will Qmail be able to process it's mail/spam/antivirus better or faster?

Thanks guys.

To a certain degree, yes. The various pieces of the toaster (mail/spam/antivirus) run as independent processes, so they would run concurrently. 'top' will show each cpu's usage.

That being said, whether it'll be faster or not depends on where your present toaster is constrained. As an extreme example, if the toaster's running on a 256k DSL line, I don't think you'd see an improvement, as the network speed would be the limiting factor.

If you don't have enough ram (512M makes a very comfortable toaster), then adding another CPU won't help.

Be careful tuning spamassassin, as it can be a memory hog. Too many SA processes for the amount of ram you have can actually slow things down. As always, keep paging to a minimum for best performance.
