If I "telnet localhost 110" from the server I gain access immediately. But if I use IP or hostname it takes forever from the server or from the clients. I have checked hostname, /etc/hosts??? It eventually does work but after a few minutes.

So this two machines are in the same subnet 192.168.1.

How much it take If you make a "telnet my.domain.com 110" from the server.

Try with my.domain.com and with the IP.

Do you use NAT?

Does my.domain.com resolves to 192.168.1.XXX (being this the IP of the
mail server) or a public IP?
