I've modified qtp-whatami for mdv2007, and corrected the settings (no
mdk103) for mdk2006.

Will you please test it? You can simply get it from the development branch:
# wget http://svn.shubes.net/qtp/trunk/bin/qtp-whatami
then run it
# ./qtp-whatami
It should report your distro and version.
