That script doesn't really have anything to do with CentOS4.2 vs 4.4. All releases of CentOS4 should be using cnt40 as the DISTRO variable. I'm guessing, did you use DISTRO=cnt44 by chance? If you install qmailmailtoaster-plus (or simply get the qtp-whatami script from http://svsn.shubes.net/qtp/trunk/bin/qtp-whatami) and run the qtp-whatami script, it will tell you what environment variables you should be using in the old scripts. I'm also guessing that you don't have enough free disk space to use qtp-newmodel instead of upgrade_script.sh.
