When zlib is not available, rpmbuild, rpm and yum cannot be executed.
that was I encountered yesterday, untill I revive with other zlib source.

Well I consider I'm lucky enough to have you and the qmailtoaster, those recovery was succesfull, because It gave me clue about libz.so.1, so I thought that must be something wrong on the Zlib. These all done by the wonderfull Toaster you developed.
