Thanks for the update, JP. I was wondering about the ^M characters in your log, and lack thereof on some lines. I'm not knowledgeable enough on the rules for smtp though to comment.
There is a nice writeup about the problem at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newline. Perhaps you could sum up the CRLF/LF problem for us here w/ regards to the toaster?
