If you're concerned, I'd check to be sure you at least have the binary rpms for your present installation handy. I think that would suffice (in addition to having a backup of your user data as another safety net). If you're simply upgrading from a previous 1.3.x version, you shouldn't have (much of) a problem though.
I second that. I keep a copy of the RPMs I'm currently running on a CD, then I do a backup before I do an upgrade. Then if something doesn't go right I can remove the new packages, reinstall the old ones from the CD, and then just run the restore script. I have a removal script for QMT around here somewhere, but it would need to be freshened up for the new (ie: extra) packages. I used it for testing so I could install, then uninstall to try different things without starting over.
