Okay, I don't think I understand where the problem lies and what you
propose as the correct behavior. Please clarify.
On a side note, have you switched your users to authenticated smtp?
This should skip all but clamav/attach checks. When I send an e-mail
from my client on port 587 using smtp-auth all I see is this:
Received: by simscan 1.3.1 ppid: 32696, pid: 32701, t: 0.3443s
scanners: attach: 1.3.1 clamav: 0.90.1-exp/m:42/d:2691
Thanks,
Erik

It's actually clients connecting that care about the issue. Any
reasonable SMTP server should try again for at least a day or three and
as long as the server didn't disappear from the internet, will
eventually get the mail through. This is why I brought up the
suggestion, partially to myself, that clients be exempted from simscan
checks.
