I have considered doing something similar with QTP, but to be honest I don't have time to install the other distros currently supported/used to make the script work with all of them. If you'd still like to continue this though, contact me off-list (expect a slow reply, I just moved and am just now finding what box my keyboard was put in) and we can see about rolling it into QTP if you'd like.
