Indeed your observation is correct (afaict). Justice would know best though
regarding the unionfs. That's a bit of a complicated situation, as there are
4 module/versions which provide that capability, each for various kernel
versions. I suppose that we might not have the right module/version paired
up with the right kernel in your case (kernel 2.6.17), but Justice would
need to make that call.
If Justice can't help to get this resolved, you can always use a linked or
copied sandbox to do the upgrade.
