The problem is still there. If you look at the log in my original mail there appears to be a 5 minute pause between CHKUSR accepting sender and the remote server giving up and sending an [EOF]. The SPF error appears after this and therefore I suspect it is not the root of the issue.

I did not look at the times, no. With that long of a lag, my next suspect would be a DNS issue. Try checking their info (nslookup their MX records, try to query the RBLs, etc.) from the mail server and see if there is an extremely long lag in DNS lookups.
Is this a heavily loaded server?
