I agree with Phil. ;) When it comes to RBLs, more isn't necessarily better. Fewer 'choice' ones is best.

That being said, you might be interested to know that with spamdyke, all of the RBLs are checked concurrently, not serially. This improves performance when using multiple RBLs. Even so, it's still best not to use very many of them.

I don't know how RBLBMTPD (the standard toaster RBL facility) checks, but I would guess serially (in sequence).

I agree with Eric. I got away from dnsbl.org a couple years ago. They
were just flat wrong and slow way too often. I now only use
zen.spamhaus.org and it seems to be very up to date and I don't recall
ever having a slowness problem.

Keep in mind, the more RBL's you have the slower the process will be. If
the message doesn't get kicked by the first RBL it goes to the second,
etc, etc.

Hi All,

I’ve had a slow SMTP spell this afternoon, after running a few test (dig
tool) is discovered my server was not reaching ‘lists.dsbl.org’ I
disabled it and now SMTP is back to normal superfast..

I have a DNS on my mail machine so I run

[r...@mail ~]# dig @127.0.0.1 A lists.dsbl.org
; <<>> DiG 9.2.4 <<>> @127.0.0.1 A lists.dsbl.org
; (1 server found)
;; global options: printcmd
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

Has anyone experienced this?

Alex

I've removed lists.dsbl.org from by RBLs. It was blocking some American
Express servers, so I wasn't getting electronic statements. Not
acceptable.

Looks like you've found another good reason to not use it.

FWIW, I use only zen.spamhaus.org and bl.spamcop.net, along with
spamdyke of course. ;)
