I think I've seen this before and it was either IMAP connections limitation issue, a timeout issue, or a MySQL issue...Maybe a combination? :-) I don't remember, it's been a few years.
Usually, I would see it when the server was being heavily used, and it slowed down noticeably... I wish I could remember more. Michael J.
