"Slowness" is often caused by DNS misconfiguration, from timeouts of
domain name lookups. I'd start by verifying that your DNS resolution is
operating properly. You should probably install a caching nameserver if
you haven't already:

There's not enough information. Can you explain in detail what is
happening, and supply logs from the time when it happens?
RFC821 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc821.html) defines 354 as an
intermediate reply and will consider all text afterwards to be
message text. I suspect you are using Squirrelmail and are receiving
this error - am I correct?
