I have installed CentOS 5.5 on a couple of 64bit machines now and I
have found the same issue. It is "softlimit" related. Below are the
settings I have in place.
In
/var/qmail/supervise
imap4/run:/usr/bin/softlimit -m 48000000 \
imap4-ssl/run:/usr/bin/softlimit -m 48000000 \
pop3/run:exec /usr/bin/softlimit -m 48000000 \
pop3-ssl/run:/usr/bin/softlimit -m 48000000 \
smtp/run:exec /usr/bin/softlimit -m 64000000 \
submission/run:exec /usr/bin/softlimit -m 12000000 \
These are the defaults of the program, when installed. However, I should
point out that when I install Spamdyke these values change, to lower values.
You will need to reset them afterwards.

What'd you increase it to? How much memory do you have?
# free
64Bit machines definitely need more. I thought Jake had fixed this.
Perhaps the memory increase doesn't happen on 5.5?
