This appears to be the problem, but I've no idea why there would be
no files in this folder. Did something fail previous to this?
I don't use the install script any more, I use qtp-newmodel instead
(no sense in maintaining any more scripts than necessary). See if
that doesn't work for you.

The same error is what I get when I tried the qtp-newmodel. So what
are the options left.
We'll need some more details in order to figure out the problem you're
having.
Is there an error you're getting before the chmod error? Please post the
last spamassassin portion of your
/usr/src/qtp-upgrade/log/build-recent.log file.
What is the result of:
# qtp-whatami
Is your downloaded source rpm good? You should get:
# cd /usr/src/qtp-upgrade/SRPMS
# md5sum spamassassin-toaster-3.2.5-1.3.17.src.rpm
