I don't know of any configuration changes that would cause this.
We'd need to see some specific examples to tell if it's something that
would or should have been blocked.
IOW, what exactly is "a huge increase in spam"? Is spamdyke not blocking
at all? (smtp log would show)

If you upgraded your qmail-toaster package, you'll need to reinstall spamdyke.
Just run the qtp-install-spamdyke script, and that should do it for you. Might
need to restart qmail afterwards to make spamdyke effective.
