Hello! I am having an issue with one domain sending emails to my toaster. I am running latest versions which have been upgraded occasionally, original install is via QMT-ISO; currently up to date on all regularly distributed packages per QMT Plus update check.
This particular domain, lightcraftoutdoor.com, does not have an SPF record. No matter, my spfbehavior entry was 3. So it should never get a fail. But it could connect to my smtp server, get a sender accepted but then get no further (no more entries in the log, as if it just dies): @400000004dc7d7d42033c064 tcpserver: pid 27499 from 64.98.42.52 @400000004dc7d7d4203500b4 tcpserver: ok 27499 php4.phpwebservices.com:209.234.190.114:25 :64.98.42.52::33982 @400000004dc7d7d43b72a69c CHKUSER accepted sender: from <[email protected]::> remote <smtprelay.b.hostedemail.com:unknown:64.98.42.52> rcpt <> : sender accepted @400000004dc7d7d81889557c tcpserver: end 27499 status 0 Normally smtp would continue on with a CHKUSER accepted rcpt: <blah, blah> found existing recipient. Not so with this sending domain - tcpserver just dies as apparently indicated in the log snip posted above. I can also not find any further entries in logs to indicate what happens, but eventually the sender does get a kicked back message stating spf lookup failure. So this begs some questions: 1. With an spfbehavior setting of 3, should the server still not be allowed to transmit since there is no spf record? Changing the setting to 0 does in fact allow emails to be received. Another host with no SPF record, with the setting at 3, is allowed to send mail to my server. This is empirical data - tested today with the IT admin from the offending domain. 2. How in the heck do I increase smtp logging (or should I increase other logging?) to see more of what is going on? Did a couple of searches and could not really find anything definitive. Thx. Helmut P.S. Is the list really this quiet right now? Or did I bork my mail server with setting up my own SPF record and changing settings for testing? I only see one message over the weekend. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations.
