I had an entry for the email id in the valias table, which was deleted and the 
issue was solved.

vadduser does not check valias table nor .qmail file
qmail-admin does and adding such user is rejected
bug or feature ?

check in valias table for a row with user|domain|forward address
if yes delete the row
if no check for .qmail-user in domain directory
