This is a client configuration parameter. TLS/SSL is the preferred
connection method, which encrypts the password and message. Digest-md5
can also be used to only scramble the password. While cram-md5 is
presently enabled, it is going to be removed from QMT in the near
future, as it requires passwords to be stored in clear text on the server.
If you use dovecot, disable_plaintext_auth=yes is set by default, which
covers the imap/pop side of things. There's presently no way to enforce
this policy with the stock QMT. We've requested this feature to be added
to spamdyke though, and we're hopeful that it will provide this
functionality in a future release.
