It looks like you are running a 64 bit system. Mine is 32 bit. I wonder if that's the difference. What repos are you using?

In searching for a solution I found a Gentoo thread that resembled my
problem.

I ran gdb like they did and this was the output.  Maybe it will help in
debugging.  I don't know where to go from here.
