there a way I can setup Qmail to bypass the RBLs for sessions that are

Thanks,

Use spamdyke (highly recommended) or port 587.

OK, thanks. I will give Spamdyke a try, as I would much prefer that to
opening up port 587.

One question about 587, does that still use authentication?..

Thanks muchly,
Richard.

Opening up port 587 isn't a big deal as far as I know. More and more client programs are 587-aware now. It's still too soon though to cut off authentication on port 25.

Spamdyke can handle authentication in several ways. The best way presently is to have spamdyke pass authentication responsibilities on to qmail-smtpd, which is how qtp-install-spamdyke configures things.

A recent feature was added to spamdyke which allows spamdyke to do vpopmail authentication directly, but this presently has a drawback that will reportedly be fixed in the next release. You can check the spamdyke list archives for discussion about this.
