djbdns certainly works for the time being. You should be aware though that there is nobody supporting it, which means that getting any sort of help regarding it is difficult to say the least. Also, it has no ipv6 support, which eventually will become a problem. Yes, there are ipv6 patches for it, but do you really want to go there?

BL, djbdns is not considered to be a good choice any more.

AFA QMT is concerned, either caching-nameserver (bind) or pdns-recursor (PowerDNS) is a suitable DNS resolver package. There is a forthcoming script which will set up either one for you automatically (part of the new qmailtoaster-utils package). This should be available in just a few weeks.

Thanks.

I'm fine with djbdns as it works for me (I just need the dnscache on
this mail server). I never used pdns.
Maybe, pdns is a good solution for systems with a high amount of dns
querries. But our mail sever is too small to have there a bottleneck, so
we go with djbdns ...

Yes, it work for me,

I used /etc/init.d/djbdns stop and then service pdns-recursor start.

But can you tell me which is the best DNS djbdns or pdns.

Do you get any results for
*grep -l djbdns **
?
I have it running and therefor a file "djbdns" in /etc/rc.d/init.d
(Usage: /etc/init.d/djbdns
{start|stop|restart|reload|stat|pause|cont|help})

[root@mail]# /etc/init.d/djbdns stat
dnscache: up (pid 3747) 1543697 seconds
dnscache/log: up (pid 3748) 1543697 seconds

As you can see below (see bolded & font-increased lines in your
output below), you _ARE _running some kind of DNS service... and,
as Marco points out, since the process is named "*/dnscache/*" it
is _highly likely_ that you have installed the DNS Caching Server
    from *DJBDNS*.

If all you want/need is to run a caching nameserver, it is
perfectly fine to just keep *DJB *installed -- it is every bit as
quick as *powerdns *(IMHO - I have no metrics to prove this).

If you insist on removing it in favor of powerdns, there isn't
likely to have been a YUM RPM that you used to install it (at
least none that I'm aware of - it is usually installed manually),
but it is small -- VERY small -- so just turning it off in your
    startup scripts should suffice.

    *cd /etc/init.d
    grep -l dnscache *
*<look at result -- one of these scripts is starting the dnscache
    process>
either remove the script or try something like *chkconfig
    <filename> off*
Unfortunately, since DJBDNS is usually built and installed
locally, the exact methods to turn it off can only be guessed at
    from here...

    I hope this helps...
