I'd say that's very likely to be the cause. Any errors involved with
scanning can cause a soft reject like this.

And, was wondering, since they lasted for the duration of the qq soft
reject, if this could be the problem?

For about 37 minutes no user on a QMT host could send message receiving
the error (mail server temporarily rejected message). I looked in the
submission log and found a qmail-smtp: qq soft reject error.
I closed all running gnome desktop programs and restarted qmail and
about 1 minute later everything started working as it should. I noticed
on the QTP site this link (http://qtp.qmailtoaster.com/trac/ticket/37)
is this the track I should follow to investigate this further?
