Seems like an ownership problem. The file should be read only. Try:
# chmod 644 notlshosts/<fqdn>

The folder at 755 should be fine
Other qmail-remote files, like smtproutes, have ownership, root:qmail and 644 perms.

i followed these instructions and it worked. the only problem is permissions.
it works only if give 777 permissions.

thanks for your timely help.

however need to find out exact user/group and permissions.

tried giving ownership as root:qmail and rw-r-r permissions like other control
files but did not work.

any clues ?
