Nevermind, I got it figured out. Thanks for all your help everyone.
I needed to dispatch the event from the mywidget object rather than the OtherClass... i.e. in other class: w1.dispatchEvent(....) Which isn't a problem since my application will keep all the myWidgets around in the OtherClass. Again, thanks for all your help. I'm glad I was able to inspire a spirited namespaces discussion in the process, haha.
