I've made the change to make it left-aligned.  It totally breaks
treevirtual, which now looks awful.  The header cell renderer will need a
new method added to allow getting at the atom which implements the header,
so that its appearance can be modified on a per-subclass or per-widget
basis.  Currently, there's no way to get at the widget and thus change its
appearance.
