OMG, you're right, that was it. Registering as "Tj Crowder" rather than "TJ Crowder" or "T.J. Crowder" worked. Then I was able to go into my account and correct it ("T.J."), and it accepted the change.
Perhaps I'll trot over to DocuWiki and file a bug report...
