window.status is not a browser specific method. It is a standard Javascript
call that may or may not be available to all browsers. To the best of my
knowledge, calling window.status on a browser that does not have a status
bar will not generate an error, but nothing happens. On some browsers
window.status actually pops up a tooltip like window. I think only old
browsers are lacking the status bar.
