Thanks for the reply. I was able to get it to work be using the
Application.js file that was supplied with the Quickstart code. If I do not
call that file in my Index.htm file, I get the above mentioned behavior
(bad), if I simply call Application and only to "this.base(arguments);" then
it works. Why? What happens in this simple line of code to make everything
else work? So I now load the qooxdoo.js file and Application.js (like the
Quickstart application had) and the only thing in my Application.js is:

qx.Class.define("Application",
{
  Extend : qx.application.Gui,
  members:
  {
    main : function()
    {
      this.base(arguments);
    }
  }
});


So simple yet it is the glue that makes Table work. Go figure...
