Hello, I think that by trying to use a back-up of the old installation, that some paths are not being set correctly. That's why 'ls' is not working.
I had a similar issue with a firewall recently (I could not see the list of mirror sites). What I did was to run install but choose the 'from local disk' option (I had the old download files saved). That worked well. Now if you deleted those files, you will have to go back to trying to fix the patsh Try the 2nd approach and let me know.
