I just did a quick google for "open source icon sets" and found the
following:
* http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Desktop_Project
* http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/
* http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Nuvola_icons
* http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Vista_icons
I'm sure a bit of digging will turn up tons more, that have acceptable
licenses for your project (and if you need a custom one that matches
whatever you standardize on, I'm sure the original designer would love a
bit of extra paid work...) :-)

boss would pay for it ;) )
which we can use to redesign our web- (and non-browser)-apps?
