Well, I'm revisiting this after finding a
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2008/11/11/internet-explorer-mobile-6.aspx
post about Internet Explorer Mobile 6 . Apparently it is IE6's rendering
engine + IE8's scripting engine. More details available in the

Internet Explorer Mobile 6 white paper . Note that it may take a while (?)
until widely deployed.

I've downloaded the emulated and quickly tested my application and qooxdoo
in general (0.7.3 showcase application). So far, I've noticed that:
 * Complex widgets (such as tables, trees and such) work; :-)
 * Toggle buttons work but press buttons don't: only focus is given to them
(this may be a browser issue, although it deserves to be further
investigated); :-(
 * Tooltips work (pretty amazing as PDAs generally don't have the "hover"
concept but probably this is simply due to the above bug); :-D
 * Native windows are somehow limited (page is simply navigated to the
target location); :-/
 * Not able to drag internal windows (due to the gesture for pan, probably
not a browser bug). Try using
http://demo.qooxdoo.org/0.7.3/demobrowser/html/example/Window_1.html the
demobrowser file directly as loading the Internal Window section of the
Showcase seems to silently fail; :-/
 * It's pretty easy to end up with "Out of memory" messages; :-/
 * HTTP redirection is broken for long URLs (use the direct URL instead);
:-(
 * The overall feel is that everything is slow so patience is needed
(although it's an emulator, target devices may also feel like slowed down).
;-)

I've also set up http://www.opera.com/mobile/ mobile Opera 9.5 (beta) and
got to the following quick conclusions:
 * Complex widgets (such as tables, trees and such) work; :-)
 * Native windows work (by opening a new "tab"); :-)
 * Not able to drag internal windows (due to the gesture for pan, probably
not a browser bug); :-/

I'm not sure how other mobile browsers hold up - is anyone else interested
in checking them out?

Generally, I'm happy that mobile browsers seem to be catching up to the
desktop browser experience (although naturally in lack for speed and
features). Hope my pre-Christmas/pre-vacation fun may also be
useful/inspiring for others! ;-)

Merry Christmas,

 Helder Magalhães
