Mike,
I have to wonder if the problem is because the Qooxdoo "SelectBox" is
like an HTML single-height select box, while the Qooxdoo "List" is like
an HTML select box displaying multiple lines. In HTML, a LIst is a
display text layout object, not a select box object. This might confuse
developers used to using the multi-line select box in HTML.
In HTML, the first item in a single-height select box is automatically
selected on presentation if no "selected" object is specified on
creation, but multi-line select boxes allows for a default of no
selection from the list. In my HTML work, I always created a NULL value
entry with appropriate text at the top of any single-line Selectbox in
my forms, like 'None' or 'Select one...' to alert the user to an
appropriate action.
Maybe you need to use the Qooxdoo List object instead of the SelectBox
object, if it matches your needs more closely. Without looking at the
API details, you might find that the selection behavior of the List
object behaves more like what you're desiring.
