Ok, it was my mistake after all. Here is the correct snippet: I forgot to
stretch the parent layout to the corners of the root layout. Duh. Sorry for
the noise.

var qxComposite1 = new qx.ui.container.Composite();
qxComposite1.setLayout( new qx.ui.layout.Grow() );
var noteHtmlView = new qx.ui.embed.Html( "Loading..." );
noteHtmlView.setOverflowY( "scroll" );
qxComposite1.add( noteHtmlView );
this.getRoot().add(qxComposite1, {edge:0});
