BTW, following up on my own post: the Swell JS library appears to have some fancy desktop drag and drop stuff. I looked at the code but didn't really spend enough time to understand well what they were doing as it was quite confusing. I'd recommend the QooxDoo gods take a look at this; it seems really, really cool, and I haven't seen it in any other JS framework. (Thanks to panyasan for originally pointing me to this.)
There's also the need to integrate the existing drag and drop with the capabilities offered by HTML5. I'm not sure if that's on the roadmap, but I think it would be huge advantage for QooxDoo if we had that.
