Hey Greg, you have to take care of the appearance of those sub widgets. If you use them as child control, the appearance id's change (I guess) which causes the appearance (the arrow for example) to go away. Try to define an item in your appearance theme just extending the original appearance. Take a look at the original appearance of the selectbox arrow to see the naming convention.
