Selenium's doubleClick may not work (depending on the target widget), try using qxClick with the double=true parameter. I doubt that's the problem since you said it works in Selenium (IDE?), but it can't hurt. Aside from that, five seconds really should be enough for any widget to appear. When you're running your test in Java, can you place your browser and shell windows side by side to visually confirm that the tree item widget appears after the qxClick command?
