I just stumbled across that myself yesterday with the same solution as your's. But I guess it should be fairly easy to create another version of the current check box with a lable on the left instead (and perhaps some adjustable spacing). I don''t have many checkboxes, so this would mainly be an improvement as far as coding is concerned ...
