I was able to solve the issue by adding the following line:

*        print self.path*
*
*
to /opt/qooxdoo-1.4-sdk/tool/pylib/generator/resource/Image.py line 57

which showed me the image that python through an exception. I then
re-exported my image from photoshop and how everything is fine.
