Ian, very nice article. I'm not a PHP developer, let alone user of xdebug, so I don't know what the "normal" user interface of xdebug feels like. I presume you have your PHP app running, and in case of an error, xdebug dumps its information onto the page. To have xdebug provide Json and have a dedicated front-end for it makes utterly sense to me. Very nice demo with a semi-transparent qooxdoo window floating over the main app. It would probably be easy to add a small toolbar at the top that allows you to open/close this window, and maybe others.
