I will study your solution and see what is easier to implement (using the
converter and receiving a more complex model back, or modifying the data
before turning it into a model). 

Thank you very much for your time and effort answering this question - I
think really that one of the strengths of qooxdoo is the ability to always
get a solution in the mailing list :) (even though the documentation is
often baffling).

It feels to me like there should be a more elegant solution to the combining
of two controllers - the form controller and list controller (or maybe the
form controller should be able to implement model lists for its SelectBoxes
and make them available somehow for modification without changing the rest
of the form model), but I need to think some more. If something will occur
to me I will suggest it as a feature.

By the way, I turned the label to rich in the selectbox (using
configureItem), and added the spaces as &nsbp;s. Not elegant, but works.
